Hi, it really depends on what you will be doing with the house after the renovation is complete. Are you going to sell or rent it? Are you going to move into the house? Will another family member move into the house?

If you are going to sell or rent the house then I would stick to the neutral colors as someone already mentioned.

If you are going to move into the house then find something you really like (a piece of art, a patterned fabric, a color, etc) and design around that piece. For example, if you have a piece of artwork that you really like, pick the colors out of the artwork and use them throughout the house as accent colors.
When you begin to pick those accent colors, fabrics and wood tones make sure you look at all of these together with the painting and see what you like. Make sure you pay attention because if you do, you will see what doesn't look good and what does.

Designing is very subjective and based on personal tastes so, it doesn't matter if you are not the best. If you like it and are confident about the colors then other people will pick up on that and will like it as well.

If someone else in the family will be moving into the house – ask them to find an item that they like and have them help design the colors.

    Have Fun!
